Summer 2009 is officially over meaning it’s time to put away the shorts and pull out your jeans for another season. This season the jean is less of a staple and more of a statement so make sure you’re saying the right things.

Boyfriend Jeans

Still riding the wave of popularity the boyfriend jean is one of the most popular trends around. Katie Holmes is sort of credited with bringing the style into the forefront but don’t be misled, there’s no way those jeans belonged to the vertically challenged Tom Cruise. Another thing to note when going with the boyfriend jean is the ripped look is already being looked at as a bad 2009 trend and even though the year is only half over, you may want to stay away from tattered jeans.

Bleached Jeans

The latest trend in distressed jeans is bleached. Where the ripped and torn is already over the bleached jean look is just hitting its stride. The best bleached jean look is one that’s more subtle, the very white spots on very dark blue denim is a bit too showy but the lighter spots on soft blue denim is a great way to go. The light stains on grey that Hilary Duff is sporting is also a subtle and stylish option.

Leather Jeans

Sort of a contradiction in terms, but denim styled pants made of leather are going to be hot and happening for Fall 2009 and into 2010. This material is drawing a lot of attention and cropping up on everyone from rock stars to MILFs all over. But don’t pull a Jolie and slide into leather jeans that obviously don’t fit, that is unless you’ve got a Brad Pitt on your arm who will cover the rip with his hand.
