It’s already the summer of 2009 and if there was ever a season to be a fashion forward style maven, this is it. As retailers drop prices and offer special incentives it’s almost impossible not to shop. How can you even think about passing up those deals?

So what shoes do you absolutely need to have to lead the fashion pack in 2009?

The gladiator shoe  is the breakout shoe from 2008 and at this point it’s pretty obvious that every woman should own a pair and wear them frequently. Unfortunately, “reality” star Lauren Conrad appears to have taken the trend a little too far and from the looks of the bruises and bandaid on her leg she must be moonlighting as a gladiator as well. You can skip the bruises and just wear the shoes.

The cage sandal as seen on Leighton Meester is just an awesome look. It’s a little bit sexy, a little bit naughty and a whole lot of S&M, the perfect shoe to make everyone jealous.

The platform sandal is more popular than ever, allowing women to reach new heights in fashion. Jessica Simpson and Mary Kate Olsen sport the style above but just  a quick look will tell you that platforms are the celebrity sandal choice of the season.

 

Another trend, which is almost impossible to spot on a celebrity, is the collar sandal. Feel free to skip this trend entirely as it looks utterly ridiculous. BUT if you decide to go down this road, you will look super hip and trendy this season, just make sure you rotate them out of your line up before everyone starts laughing.
