5 Pairs of Jeans Every Woman Must Have

By |   May - 5 - 2009

Fashions come and go but one thing remains steady; a good, butt-flattering pair of jeans is an essential wardrobe item. The problem is your jeans may make your butt look fabulous but the huge bell bottoms and the embroidered peace symbols on the pockets make you look like a dated fashion nightmare. It’s time to weed through your jeans and toss out the old ones, and the one’s you think you might one day fit into again. And then get yourself the 5 pairs of jeans that every woman should have in 2009.

Lindsay Lohan Boyfriend Jeans

The Boyfriend Jeans

The boyfriend jean trend looks great on Lindsay Lohan here, accessorized with a simple black tank top and a towering pair of black heels. But the key is you have to look so thin in these jeans that it seems like they’re going to slide right off your body. It’s a hard look to carry off but it is one of the trendsetters of 2009. Big hint – if you’re into the boyfriend look, don’t layer them together, stick to only one boyfriend piece of clothing at a time.

Katie Holmes Colored Jeans

The Colored Jean

This trend probably won’t last long, but its here now and if you want to be in style then you’d better pick up a pair of brightly colored jeans like these worn by Katie Holmes. Holmes has it right here by pairing her red jeans with a long black sweater so the jeans aren’t competing for attention, they’re center stage but in a tasteful way. Don’t get hung up on a red pair, there are lots of options and this year white is considered a color if you’re too timid to go bold.

Jessica Alba Skinny Jeans

The Skinny Jean

Still hanging in there, the skinny jean is a must have fashion accessory. Jessica Alba is sporting a nice dark pair (and why can’t I find a light pair anywhere?) of skinny jeans with two layered tank tops and somehow she looks incredibly glamorous. This is the best way to work the skinny jean, let your accessories make the statement, wear the highest heels you can walk in and keep it simple. (Oh, and ignore the naysayers who say this trend is over – it’s far from done).

Kate Moss Mid Waist Jeans

Higher Waist Jeans

Higher waisted jeans, (and I mean slightly higher, not the 1980’s bustier style), are finally making a comeback. This is a welcome change for a lot of women who are sporting a bit of the dreaded muffin top. Jeans should be flattering and holding in that extra roll is definitely more flattering than letting it bulge over the top of your jeans. This look will probably stay a while as it looks great on most women so invest in a pair immediately. Heck if rail thin Kate Moss can rock them anyone can.

Rachelle LeFevre Destructed Jeans

Destructed Wash Jeans

Sometimes paired with the boyfriend, the destructed wash look is everywhere and looks pretty grubby, but apparently it gives the appearance that you’re just too cool to care how you look, like Rachelle Lefevre in this picture. Keep this look for casual afternoons and running errands, it’s not going to fly in most work spaces and may not impress your date. If you want to save a little money, take one of your old pairs of jeans and just beat the heck out of them with an old brick on cement, that’s how we did it in the ’80s.
