I think the best way to determine whether you’re a cardigan gal or a denim jacket wearer is to look that shoes you’re going to wear. This year both super strappy sandals and other feminine styles are garnering attention alongside more sturdy and tough shoes like motorcycle boots. Your best bet is to get a summer cover up that complements your shoe choice for the day.

Celebrities Denim on Denim

Finally! For a few years now I’ve been looking for skinny jeans in a light blue denim, now not only can I get them, but denim leggings are cropping up everywhere taking that skinny jean one step further. But it’s not just jeans where you’re going to see denim in the spring of 2010.

This season denim on denim is back. So in addition to your blue jean bottoms you’re going to want to find a nice denim jacket. Dark blue is the color of the season and something simple and classic is a good choice, like the Paige Denim Vermont Jacket.

Denim tops are also trendy this season but not worn open and untucked like their last trip around the block, this time you’ll want to wear them tucked and more fitted. If you’re going to match with your jeans then wearing different colors is an easy match while wearing similar colors requires a lot of fading and wear to pull off the look.

If the full denim top or denim jacket with your jeans feels a little to “rugged” for you, break up the look by adding a denim vest to a white t-shirt or oxford and get the double denim look with a bit of a break in the visual line.

It’s one of those years where the more denim you wear at once the better you’ll look so feel free to buy that comfort fabric that makes you look so good.

Motostyle on The Hills

Okay maybe it’s not the latest trend, it’s actually been rolling out slowly for the past year but it think it’s just about to hit its stride and hit it hard. The latest trend is all about tough women.

First we saw the motorcycle boots come out with a pretty big vengeance this fall, they were often compared to the cowboy boots as women were trying to capture that strength and portray a more resilient image. I blame this on the economic situation, when finances start to tank people look for durable products that make them feel strong and secure.

So I guess it’s no surprise that we’d see strength starting to emerge in other accessories or pieces of clothing and the motocross jean or moto jean seems to be the early response to this. These oft distressed and super tight jeans look extra good on those who are starving because their finances are so bad.

And of course we can’t neglect the ubiquitous motorcycle jacket which seems to always be around in varying degrees of popularity. The motorcycle jacket hasn’t quite broken through as a true hit trend now but when we will probably see shades of it this spring and summer with it picking up steam in the fall.

So gals, if you want to look sexy I guess the key is dressing like you drive a motorcycle.

Paris Hilton Winter Wear

Okay, as I spend my winter vacation freezing my butt off in Florida (yes it has actually snowed here and the wind chill is in the 20’s!) I’m thinking that I am really inappropriately dressed. So how should I have dressed for my January vacation in south Florida?

Well, apparently I should have dressed like a four year old if I’m going to use Paris Hilton as a fashion example (and who really would do that).

Apparently Paris Hilton has decided the only way to bundle up in the winter and still look cute is by taking fashion back to preschool days. Either that or the fact that she’s rapidly approaching 30 is freaking her out.

Paris Hilton decided that her ski trip to Aspen just wouldn’t be complete without a pink winter coat, a pink pair of pants a few layered tops, of course the top one must be pink or the entire look would be ruined, a pair of oversized white sunglasses and the piece de resistance, a goofy looking knit mouse hat.

I really don’t know what to say about this whole ensemble, or maybe I have too many things to say and I just can’t pick the right witty response. So I’ll just let you fill it in yourself.

Rachel McAdams

The up and coming trend for 2010 is military inspired. Rachel McAdams has fully adopted this style with her Smythe’s surplus jacket in a traditional olive color. And if you’re thinking about dipping your toes into the military fashion trend, a jacket is the perfect way to go.

Another way to embrace the new military inspired clothing trend is by purchasing a pair of shoes that reflect this shift in fashion. Some military inspired shoes look very authentic, especially the Dr. Martens shoes, but some of them are less militant and more feminine. Either way, you’ll discover these shoes are more versatile that you think and you’ll find yourself calling them into duty quite often.

As has happened in the past with military inspired fashions, the trend starts with accessories like jackets and shoes and quickly makes its way into the staple pieces like pants, tops, and dresses.

I think the key to carrying off the military trend in fashion for 2010 is to focus on military looks and not camouflage clothing.

Katie Holmes Dizzy Feet

You heard it here first, okay maybe you didn’t but a while back a reported that the must have jacket for this season is a grey leather coat. Well, Katie Holmes with her impeccable and trend making fashion style proves it in here light grey leather jacket at and black mini skirt at the Dizzy Feet Celebration of Dance.

Katie Holmes is one of the co-founders of Dizzy Feet a group that provides assistance to people who cannot afford to follow their dreams of becoming professional dancers. She showed up at the recent event in Hollywood in a sexy but simple little black dress, a miniskirt version, and to top off the dress and make it more seasonally appropriate, (also to prove my point about the grey leather jackets) she threw on a light grey leather jacket. Finally she completed the outfit with a pair of strappy platform sandals in a simple black color.

The only problem with Katie Holmes’s look here is her hair. My hair looks better than that after waking up in the backseat of a cab with used chewing gum stuck to it, seriously. What in the world was she thinking going to a charity event for a foundation that she is co-founder of without even running a comb through her hair? I mean anyone who does their own hair without a team of stylists knows that the messy hair look takes time and work and does not consist of actually just throwing your hair into a ponytail after a roll in the hay.

Hugh Jackman

If you want to stay ahead of the trends then your first purchase should be a motorcycle jacket. This leather staple of the biker crowd is an obvious nod to the motorcycle trend and it’s one of those rare fashion trends that is weather appropriate. Spend a little to buy a good quality motorcycle jacket in a neutral color because this trend will probably still be around next year, not as wildly popular but still there. And if you do live in Middle America you’ll be cutting edge this year and one of the masses next.

The next must have motorcycle fashion trend is the motorcycle boot. Here you can go for a subtle motorcycle boot that isn’t as trendy or you can go way out and get something that screams Harley Davidson, either way you’ll probably get a lot of wear out of them this season as they’re also weather appropriate and this year the motorcycle boot is considered sexy.

The motorcycle is optional, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see some of Hollywood’s trendiest riding a hog this winter.

Audrina Patridge

Audrina Patridge has come up with an almost perfect outfit for the fall/winter 2009 season. This star from the Hills has paired casual with chic and crisp and put together a look that is perfect for any casual situation and some that are even a bit more dressy.

Get her look by investing in a grey leather jacket. Black would make the outfit too rock and roll but the grey color has a softening effect, making it more versatile. On top of that both leather and grey are popular wardrobe elements this season so you should get a lot of use out of the jacket.

Underneath the jacket wear a simple white t-shirt. The t-shirt gives the outfit a casual feel, but just by removing the white t-shirt and replacing it with a printed floral top and you’ve got a dressier look for more formal occasions or holiday parties.

Audrina Patridge’s skinny jeans in grey are also another good choice because denim in non-blue colors almost automatically dresses up the look a bit but the denim keeps it from being over the top. The tone on tone grey combination is taking this season’s “new black” and giving it more power and sex appeal.

Finally, a simple and very trendy pair of strappy black ankle boots and an understated black clutch complete the outfit. It’s that perfect outfit where you don’t look like you tried too hard but yet you seem perfectly pulled together at the same time.

Michael Jackson

There are a lot of reasons that fashion turns to the armed services but this time I think it actually has more to do with Michael Jackson than the economy. The current military inspired jacket is a little more military band member than the traditional camo jacket of the past. The current look is very reminiscent of Michael Jackson’s flamboyant yet militant style.

In keeping with the Michael Jackson style look for a jacket that has a bit of a military look but a lot of bling and glam. The LaROK Captain Glam Jacket almost screams Michael Jackson and I believe if they gloved one were still alive this is a jacket he’d definitely wear. The look maximizes on military touches like the top flap hip pockets and the double breasted cut. It also takes a few leads from marching bands with its Mandarin collar and the beading and rhinestones. All it really needs now is some epaulettes like the Alice + Olivia Shrunken Military Jacket with Embellishments.

If you’d like to adopt this style but aren’t really ready to join the band (or the military) opt for a dark neutral colored double breasted blazer, like the Elizabeth and James Double Breasted Blazer. This look has just a hint of military style but is very feminine and understated and looks good with just about any outfit, from boyfriend jeans to that little black dress.

Mary Kate Olsen Fashion Week

It’s fashion week in Paris and many of the noted trend setting celebrities are making sure to not only see the fashions but to be seen at the fashion shows. Nothing says you have your pulse on the cutting edge of fashion like showing up at a fashion show.

Mary Kate Olsen made her obligatory appearance with her boyfriend Nate Lowman and the normally oddly dressed of the Olsen twins looked good in her typical bohemian style boosted with a little bit of rock and roll volume.

The fringed jacket she’s wearing somehow gives her look a bohemian rock look with its soft fringed bottom and the smooth leather of the top. The velour and lace black skirt isn’t a total hit but the combination of the smooth velour and textured lace plays nicely with the same smooth and fringed qualities of the jacket making the entire outfit a pretty big hit. This outfit alone may solidify her status as quirky fashionista for another year.

But let’s take a look at her beau, Nate Lowman. What the hell is he wearing?! It’s like he’s channeled the spirit of both The Music Man and Grease at the same time. Dressed like the Fonz he’d pass the fashions test for a man but adding the straw boater hat just seems beyond weird.
