Camping has gone from being the cheap way for families to vacation together to the cool way to get away and enjoy the outdoors, and it’s far from cheap these days.

Celebrities across the globe have embraced camping, maybe it’s a way to escape the media and their daily lives or perhaps it’s a chance for them and their families to experience Mother Nature. Whatever the reason celebrities are a big reason that camping has become the cool way to vacation.

In addition to the changing approach to camping, camping supplies have changed as well. Our family’s first tent didn’t even have a floor, you slept right on the ground. Today’s tents not only have floors but you’re expected to have raised air mattresses, sleeping bags made of the highest quality materials and additional rooms attached to your tent. And that’s just the sleeping situation, the cooking situation has changed so much it might actually have you yearning for the days of hot dogs on a stick half cooked over a campfire 

For the fashionistas in the crowd, camping has also changed the way we look while camping. I remember layers of clothing to be peeled off or reapplied as the temperature changed, no showers, and lots of lotions, those to repel bugs and those to prevent sunburn, or going way back, those to improve tans. Today glamping has hit the campground circuit and campers are boosting the appeal by adding as much glamour as possible. Glamping is officially used to describe the camping clothing people are choosing, but it’s beginning to stretch to the accessories and I’m sure eventually having the latest and best of everything will be a part of glamping. So if you want to be cutting edge in your family vacation, go glamping!

Paris Hilton Sunglasses

You know what just occurred to me, Paris Hilton has been suspiciously absent lately. Picking on Paris has become sport for a lot of bloggers and paparazzi and lately she’s just not been playing our reindeer games. So today I was pretty excited to see that Paris has indeed been busy creating fodder for us to gossip about.

Paris Hilton’s British Best Friend, a “reality” television show is set to jump across the pond and air in the United States on Tuesday – that’s right, tomorrow, on the TV Guide Network.

Apparently the premise is that poor Paris has to spend time working and playing in the U.K. and needs a best bud to take the place of Nicole Ritchie. Which makes total sense, I know I get a reality series every time I go on a trip.

Will I be watching her show tomorrow night, unfortunately not as I am on vacation, which means I am currently shooting my new series about who wants to me my best friend, believe me the competition is fierce. But I will be anxious to see what comes out of the show. Last year Paris was seen in a number of situations that only wanna-be celebrities can seem to get themselves into and Paris was always spotted wearing a headband, so suddenly the headband became the hot hair accessory of the season.

So far, from the promotional photos and the images from the U.K. during filming, Paris seems to be quite fond of oversized white framed sunglasses. This fad comes and goes and every time it comes I rush out and buy a pair and then the next season I look at the pictures of me in them and wonder WTH was I thinking? Well, I think it’s going to be one of those years, so buy the white sunglasses and look like a weird oversized bug, but take them off for any pictures, you’ll thank me later.

Lady Gaga Lobster

Okay I realize she’s on tour and expected to be outrageous so that’s why Lady GaGa is going more over the top now than usual but the outfit she donned for last night’s trip to get take out dinner is just screaming for attention.

First of all the singer wrapped herself in a see through plastic garb of some sort. I don’t know if it was homemade or made by anyone who claims to be a designer but it’s not going to be hitting the stores anytime soon, that’s for sure.

But beyond the plastic jumpsuit, it was really the accessories that made this outfit noteworthy. For one, the rhinestone lobster planted on her head and secondly, the plastic chicken claw tied to her wrist, and the odd way she affectionately looped her finger around one of the chicken’s claws. This look simply inspires a quizzical look and a lot of paparazzi, which I’m sure was her aim.

But it makes me wonder where she finds her accessories. Most of us think inside the box when it comes to accessories but maybe we should branch out. Hunting decoys might make an interesting look. I can actually picture an outfit covered in clip on dove decoys or a Mojo Woodpecker hat. In fact, I should design these garments and pitch the idea to Lady GaGa, who knows if she’s got an outfit to wear then next time she has to run an errand.

Tim Gunn

Does anyone watch What Not to Wear or Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style? Both of these television programs give some great tips on how to dress to impress and they help fashion deficient people with everyday looks?

Overall they’re good shows but the thing I have a problem with is their casual looks. The running errands outfits are absolutely ridiculous. Who’s really going to put on a cute little pencil skirt and a casual sweater and then slip into a pair of low pumps before they run to the grocery store?

Maybe it’s because I live in Wisconsin where there aren’t any pretenses when people run errands or because you’re probably not going to run into anyone famous or your agent or the producer of the next Broadway play you hope to get a starring role in. But in the world outside of New York and L.A. I think casual means casual not dressed up in case anything happens.

I work at home so for me wearing a dress or a skirt as a casual look is pretty ridiculous. Instead I opt for loungewear, or a pair of jeans and whatever top suits the season. And when I find time to run to the store or to run errands I don’t change clothes, I wear the same thing and slide my feet into some slip on shoes and out the door I go.

Don’t get me wrong, I love those shows but I do feel that they need a dose of reality. Especially before they throw out all of the victim’s truly casual clothes, the things they’ll actually really need in the future. Casual means casual and lets all agree there is nothing wrong with running to the grocery store in a pair of sweatpants.

Britney Spears 2010 Grammys

Well, it’s another award show for 2010 and remarkably most of the celebrities decided to go glam and looked spectacular. Last night’s Grammy Awards was dotted with incredibly fashionable women and a few weirdoes as well.

While Lady Gaga is grabbing headlines for her galaxy outfit we do have to say she looked quite stellar in it. It’s Britney Spears who gets tops honors as the tackiest dresser of the evening. File this in the what-was-she-thinking category as she pulled a long sleeved sheer black dress over her underwear, leaving basically nothing to the imagination. There are rumors swirling that she had a late flight and didn’t have time to get ready but seriously, didn’t she even have time to look in the mirror?

The best dressed belle of the 2010 Grammys Ball isn’t as easy to determine but Rihanna definitely floated above the others in her ethereal white dress. This high necked, sleeveless dress is embellished with soft feathers and decorative stones but it’s the open back that really grabs your attention. In addition to the stunning dress, Rihanna’s makeup and hair artists did an incredible job of pulling the attention where it should be and giving her look a very soft and feminine touch.

As for who won awards, does it matter? It’s really all about the fashion.

Kate Hudson Golden Globes 2010

Overall, the stars were dressed spectacularly but there were some obvious clunkers and one that’s bound to make the top of every worst dressed list, Kate Hudson. Say it isn’t so Kate. Kate Hudson is just such a beautiful girl and she has one of the most incredible bodies (even with her petite top) and then she goes and wears something like the white dress above. It’s like Frankenstein’s bride on crack. Oh, and it’s not just the dress. Did you see those shoes? What in the world? Now if anything screams Frankenstein’s bride it’s these white platform shoes.

Maybe the divorced Miss Hudson is having some wedding day envy and wanting to walk down the aisle again, but it’s doubtful that this particular outfit will ever hear the wedding march, it’s really just too frightening to see the light of day again.

Paris Hilton Winter Wear

Okay, as I spend my winter vacation freezing my butt off in Florida (yes it has actually snowed here and the wind chill is in the 20’s!) I’m thinking that I am really inappropriately dressed. So how should I have dressed for my January vacation in south Florida?

Well, apparently I should have dressed like a four year old if I’m going to use Paris Hilton as a fashion example (and who really would do that).

Apparently Paris Hilton has decided the only way to bundle up in the winter and still look cute is by taking fashion back to preschool days. Either that or the fact that she’s rapidly approaching 30 is freaking her out.

Paris Hilton decided that her ski trip to Aspen just wouldn’t be complete without a pink winter coat, a pink pair of pants a few layered tops, of course the top one must be pink or the entire look would be ruined, a pair of oversized white sunglasses and the piece de resistance, a goofy looking knit mouse hat.

I really don’t know what to say about this whole ensemble, or maybe I have too many things to say and I just can’t pick the right witty response. So I’ll just let you fill it in yourself.

Tuxedoed Beckhams

It’s incredibly embarrassing for a Hollywood celebrity to be spotted anywhere wearing the same dress as another celebrity, even if they’re not at the same event. But what about showing up at an event wearing matching tuxedos?

Apparently that doesn’t bother Victoria and David Beckham as they both donned black tuxedos for a night out on the town in London. But maybe it wasn’t the matching tuxedos that made the looks fail but the other items the couple wore, or forgot to wear, as the case may be.

The most noticeable item missing is Victoria Beckham’s shirt. Sure she’s trying to turn a traditional male clothing item into something sexy and feminine but showing certain female body parts doesn’t necessarily look feminine, it just looks a little bit trashy, but then she always was the trashy spice.

More glaringly erring is David Beckham. Mr. Beckham selected brown men’s dress shoes and a brown belt to wear with his black tuxedo. No, no, no, David Beckham, you just can’t mix browns and blacks when wearing a tuxedo. And shame on Posh for not helping her husband get dressed, but then again he let her leave the house without her top.

Jessica Simpson in the Role of Balloon Boy

Yes, sequins are one of the hottest accessories this season and you’ll probably be seeing a fair number of sequined and embellished dresses but remember the one thing Jessica Simpson obviously forgot, shiny fabrics (sequins included) catch the light in very unflattering ways, making that belly pooch look more like a second row of boobs. Sequins should be used sparingly like a sequined scarf or handbag or even a dress or sweater with just a smattering of sequins.

And the raccoon eye makeup, what to say about that? It really seems as though Jessica Simpson got ready for Ashlee Simpson’s Broadway debut in Chicago while standing in a dark closet with no mirrors. A little subtlety here can go a long way.

I’m not going to rip on her for being fat, there’s too much of that in the tabloids and quite frankly she’s probably about my size. But people who are in the public eye really have to be aware of how they look and if they don’t take pains to look good at public appearances then they shouldn’t complain about the responses they get.

Britney Spears Torn Stockings

There’s a chance that this latest fashion trend began as the economy started to tank but I think it probably began with the ripped and torn distressed jeans or maybe it was the cut out booties but whatever started the trend of showing a little skin where it’s traditionally not expected has now officially gone too far.

Ripped stockings and hosiery have been spotted on the runway and on Britney Spears (above). But try as I might I can’t find a pair of them for sale anywhere, I think it’s sort of a do-it-yourself fashion statement.

Now while a little peek at a bit of unexpected flesh through jeans, shirts, dresses or even the occasional pair of boots maybe interesting and even a little bit titillating, the flash of flesh through a pair of stockings is just tacky or grungy. It’s something well dressed people and those over the age of 30 wouldn’t be caught wearing.

The prediction is that this fashion trend will run (pun intended) its course fairly quickly and you’ll probably not even notice it as it fades into the ugly past.
