GLAAD Fashions Exposed

By |   April - 8 - 2009

The 20th Annual GLAAD Media Awards was held on April 8th, 2009 in Los Angeles at the Nokia Theater L.A. to honor the LGBT community’s accomplishments in the media. Of the many celebrities who attended the event was pageant winner, model, singer and actress Vanessa Williams. Please note that fashionistas is not one of the credits Williams can claim on her resume and the ensemble she chose to wear at GLAAD is evidence why.

Vanessa Williams showed up at the awards program in a modified toga with a bizarrely printed dress that looked a little like a Magic Eye puzzle. The length of the dress made her seem exceptionally short and stocky and her low heeled sandal didn’t help matters.

One of the newest trends in women’s clothing this season is matching wild patterns together but to pull off this look the match has to be perfect and somehow just work. If this is the look Vanessa Williams was going for she would have been much better served by the Missoni Mix Print Belted Dress at Nordstrom. Or she could have opted for a more understated print with lines that would be much more flattering to her shape and give the illusion of length where needed with a dress like the Marc Jacobs Flower House Printed Jersey Dress with Sash at Nordstrom.

With Vanessa Williams at the GLAAD Awards is her Ugly Betty co-star, Michael Urie. Urie looks absolutely fabulous and has found just the right men’s clothing for the occasion. His slightly loud gold blazer draws just the right amount of attention to this up and coming star and is paired with an understated and classic men’s white shirt and thin black tie and the uber trendy peg legged or skinny pants that all the emo kids are wearing today. If you want to replicate Michael Urie’s look give Allen Edmonds a try for the classic black Delray dress shoe. Then pick staples like the Hugo Elvor X Trim Fit Dress Shirt and a John Varvatos Star USA Slim Silk Tie from Nordstrom. Turn to John Varvatos again for the Chuckin Skinny pants. For the gold jacket I’m afraid you’re on your own, they’re pretty hard to come by.
