Look out Lumberjacks, the Fashionistas are on their Way

For those of you who remember the 90’s the newest fashion statement to be spotted on celebrities is going to look more than a little bit familiar. Back then our parents thought we were dressing like lumberjacks, we called it grunge.

No official name has been given to the recycled grunge look but it’s definitely back and back with a vengeance. It started with the boyfriend jeans, an oversized pair of pants that were too long and had to be rolled up. Then the jeans started showing signs of distress and we suddenly had the Kurt Cobain grunge jean back in our wardrobes. And of course it only made sense that the lumberjack plaid shirt would soon follow.

This look is really just plain sloppy. Look at Vanessa Hudges above, she looks dumpy and frumpy and she’s not even wearing distressed boyfriend jeans, in fact I don’t think she’s wearing pants at all. The point of grunge in the 90’s was to rebel against the preppy 80’s but bringing the look back now just seems like a cheap way to dress during an economically depressed time.

I’m personally going to predict that this fashionista as lumberjack fad will fade quickly and there will be a big backlash in the other direction, we might even see the Madonna “Like a Virgin” or the Flock of Seagull hair come back, but at the very least we’ll see people start dressing better and being more pulled together.

But in the meantime lumberjacks, farmers and construction workers may see a run on their favorite plaid shirts as young women snap them up for their latest fashion statement.
