My dad is retired so the standard tie doesn’t really fit, in fact it never did for my dad. So if the old standby is out what is next? Well my dad has a few hobbies, he golfs and fishes but it seems as though he’s already got every golf and fishing accessory ever made. But that doesn’t mean that I’ve totally written those ideas off. He knows much more about golfing and fishing than I do and I’m sure there’s always something that he needs so the gift card route is the way to go. Sure, it’s impersonal and he will know the amount I spent but it’s something he can use and probably wants.

Another gift idea for dads that doesn’t fit my dad is a hand tool or a power tool. My dad isn’t too handy and if I picked up one of these items for him I’m afraid I’d have to include a gift card to the hospital. But I know a lot of fathers do like tools and they can always use an upgrade or the latest greatest model.

Finally, I like to make my dad a little taste treat. One thing all dads love is eating and snacks are a particular favorite around our house. Add just a little extra with that personal touch and suddenly the gift card doesn’t seem as impersonal because you’ve added the love.
