By |   September - 8 - 2009

Not really known for being a fashion trendsetter, Ellen Degeneres may have started a fashion trend years ago that is finally now being picked up by the average women.

Ellen Degeneres’s penchant for wearing women’s suits, especially for red carpet events, has made her the leader in this fashion trend which is sure to be the latest clothing must have for the 2009 fall and winter season.

The women’s suit trend is a logical fashion statement during difficult economic times for both logical and psychological reasons. With unemployment at its highest rates ever it just makes sense that people will be looking for more professional clothing as they try to prove themselves worthy of keeping their jobs or as they search for a new one. Also when the economic environment is bleak it’s not uncommon for fashion trends to reflect that outlook. Not that suits are horribly bleak but they’re more serious than some of the recent fashion trends.

Another recent trend, the boyfriend look, which included boyfriend jeans, boyfriend jackets, and pretty much boyfriend everything brought more masculine stylings to the forefront. Through this look we found femininity by looking small and ill suited for these oversized pieces. The suit is almost a directly polar response to that trend.

To do the women’s suit trend right in the 2009 fall and winter seasons you’ll want to look for clothing that is masculine in color and style but the cut is feminine and flattering to a woman’s figure. Look for above the knee skirts, flared or tight legs, additional buttons and buckles, and simple ruffles or pleats that give it just a touch of the feminine. If you want to add some color to your look do it with small touches like jewelry or a handbag. The look is serious and understated and feels very professional.
