Sure the right little black dress can be almost timeless and pulled out in a pinch for any situation. But there are seasonal changes in dress styles, even the little black dress.

Last season it was the sweater dress which still has its place in this winter’s wardrobe, after all the right sweater dress is not only form fitting and flattering but it’s also practical.

Some are claiming the one shoulder dress is this season’s must have but it’s not really practical for the winter season and it’s actually a hard look for many women to carry off.

Another doubtful entrant into the winter 2009/2010 little black dress category is the shirt dress this incomplete dress is brought out every few seasons by designers and retailers but it never seems to go over week as it just looks like you’re wearing an ill fitting shirt and forgot your pants. And the shirt dress is not the sort of versatile look a woman wants from her little black dress.

The winner for this season is probably a knee length dress cinched at the waist with a belt. This season retailers are touting the bootie or ankle boot and the hosiery trend from last season is still kicking which makes the knee length dress with a waist flattering trendy belt the hot ticket look for the season. The good news is your old little black dress may fit the bill with a little bit of accessorizing.
