The colder months are upon us and it’s time to break out your old favorite jeans or time to buy that new favorite denim staple. But what are the top denim trends for fall 2009? Don’t be surprised by the apparent dichotomy in some of the trends, it’s not uncommon for one trend to cause a sharp reaction in the opposite direction.

Dark Tailored Jeans

Denim that doesn’t look like denim is a trend that’s gaining some popularity in dark tailored jeans. These classically tailored pants are more dress pant than casual jean and more comfortable and versatile too. Perfect for work then party.

Distressed Jeans

The 1980s distressed jean or the rock and roll ripped knee denim is back in style. Distressed jeans come in many shapes and styles from boyfriend jean to skinny jean to even cropped capris. With the economy as busted as it is I don’t know that I’d recommend buying a pair, just beat your old jeans with a brick, that’s what we did in the ’80s, and create your own distressed jeans.

Skinny Jeans

Still in style, the skinny jeans are no longer standing on their own like they have in the past. This season if you’re going to wear the skinny jean tuck them inside your new boots for a sleek and sexy look.

Boyfriend Jeans

The boyfriend jean has really been a staple this year and although it’s losing a bit of steam with the trend setters its gaining momentum with the masses. It’s another denim trend that doesn’t require an expensive purchase, save some money and actually steal your boyfriend’s jeans.

Denim Vests

Believe it or not, denim vests are making a bit of a splash in the fashion world. Motorcycle boots and cowboy boots are really hot, proving that tough girls are cool, and the denim vest is definitely a tough chick look.
