Warning, I Will Wear Purple

By |   September - 30 - 2009

My grandmother used to have this poster hanging on the wall with the WARNING poem, many people know of it as the purple poem or When I Am an Old Woman. The poem goes by many other names but it’s a sweet look at aging and sort of plays with the old adage that my grandma held onto, that only old women wear purple.

Maybe it’s because I just hit a milestone birthday or maybe it’s because purple is really a great color on almost everyone, but I’ve found my closet has gradually adopted a whole lot of purple, lavender, eggplant, fuchsia and burgundy colors in the last few years.

And I don’t think it’s just me, it seems like every celebrity has donned a purple shade at one point or another this year, Kim Kardashian is wearing almost nothing but purple in this itsy bitsy purple bikini. She sure doesn’t look like an old woman in her swimwear.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and officially declare purple the new black. There are so many fabulous shades of purple to wear and it’s a wonderfully neutral color that goes with just about everything. Wear a snazzy purple dress for a black tie affair and you’re sure to snag some looks of envy. Pairing purple leggings with a little black dress gives the dress a vibrant new look. Imagine how sexy and regal you’ll feel stepping out in a pair of steamy hot purple heels and I promise you won’t feel like an old lady.
