For every season there’s a denim, so what’s new in denim for Spring/Summer 2010?

Well, nothing really NEW has come out in denim for the Spring/Summer 2010 season but a lot of old trends are being recycled. The biggest one is what is called the boyfriend short or what I like to call the Construction Worker from the Village People Shorts. Yep, think out of the closet late 1970’s shorts with a hemline so high the pockets hang out and cleverly placed holes and shredding that nothing really shows but nothing is exactly hidden either. I am really hoping that this is a passing fad and it lasts just about as long as the topsy tail.

But the denim short shorts is definitely a trend that’s going to have some staying power this season as the year is all about the leg and lots of it. Just remember that if you are going to wear short shorts, keep your pockets above the hemline.

Distressed denim has been around for a long time but this season you’ll see denim that is more than simply distressed, it’s totally shredded. I’m still not completely sure why we pay a lot of money to have clothing that looks old and worn but we do and I’m sure we’ll continue to do it.

The denim trend I’m most excited about is the skinny jean now comes in a variety of hues. For about five years I’ve been looking for a skinny jean in a light blue so I can wear it tucked into my black boots (I hate navy and black) but could only find dark blue skinny jeans. This is a trend I’ve been waiting for so I have to admit it’s probably the best of the latest looks in denim.
